So we're here with Shannon Best known for being a cast member on the Real Housewives of Orange County. She joined the cast in season nine. She's the owner and founder of Real for Real and she has three daughters.
We all professional Teddy.
We also have Taylor Armstrong. Taylor Armstrong is known as an original cast member of the Bravo reality series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. In twenty twenty two, was announced that she would join the Real Housewives of Orange County, making her the first housewife to transfer franchises. She moved to Orange County nearly ten years ago and has been brought into the circle after be becoming fast friends with Tamra.

What made you guys such different type of travelers? Like for me, I knew I could travel with Tamra because she didn't bug me about a bunch of like what all are you packing?

But now that we're almost eight months into it, I would much prefer to be friendly and not be bitter because I don't have room for that negativity. And we are friends, and that is that is what we are as friends. So I have not been you were friends, And to be sure, to be clear, I have not. I have not. I have not been intimate. But there was like that moment of just I really feel like she does what she feels like she has to do to be on the show at any particular time, which is why I always had a problem with her. Like, listen, if you truly think I'm an asshole, if you truly think that I was mean to your kid, if you truly think I'm this person, be that way to me all the time. Don't just be that way to me on camera.
But I will disagree with you that one thing you said she does it all at the last minute for the paycheck. She was on h with no paycheck forever. Well, that was doing that fine fame, fine fame exactly. Let me she doesn't need a paycheck.
Who was your favorite person to work with on Beverly Hills, You.
Know, God bless her but Kim Richards because she just stressed me out so much. And there her relationship with Kyle, you know, it's long and complicated and it's too much for the cameras to even understand. But she was hard for me to film with. I never knew what she was going to do. It was always erratic.

It was my second It was my second year of season ten s T season ten, and so I didn't realize that sometimes on cast strips that you split up.

Supposed to go to the champagne place and picking tamers show up at my door and they say we're not going, and there they start filling my glass with street vodka and we literally literally Vicky drove the golf cart and into the restaurant and we asked for fireballs, which.

They had no idea what fireball was, and we just kept doing shots and.
But they kept bringing as drinks. Think you it was fireballs. So we kept doing.
Ten ten and we were ended up in the pool and then the other three came back like, oh were the other three?

She came on for a full season as a housewive. But then my first.

It was, oh, I know that, So I have a moment and I'll never forget it. The day that Camille outed my abuse was standing straight across me with his little monitor and the minute she said it, I'm staring at him with a blank stare, and he was the only person I could look at. I couldn't even look I was in such shock. But it was just him the whole time, and I just will never forget his face in that moment.
Did you have any idea that it was coming?
No idea. I never thought anything. I would say it out loud.
I don't know if you're aware of this, and I don't want to bring this down, but the nine to one to one phone call that you made is all over Twitter. It is all over TikTok and you hear there's a guy speaking to the cops. It was maybe Russell's business partner or somebody.
No, it's the guy who came to protect me. He was a world championship kickboxing Okay, him with me and.
You were there and Kennedy was with you as well. It is I just, for the first time ever listened to it the other day and it you are hysterically.
Did you know that I knew it was public right after it happened for some reason all public.
Does Kennedy have any memory of this? And how is she now? Kennedy?
I had her neuropsychologically evaluated after everything happened, and they they did days and days of testing with her, and they assured me that she was great psychologically. Was she she was when he killed himself. She was five still. Yes, So a blessing that came out of all the testing was they identified that she had shades of dyslexia. They said, psychologically she's great, but in doing all this testing, we think you should keep an eye on her for dyslexia. So as much as it was a blessing because we got ahead of her dyslexia so early because.
Of it day, does she talk about him or is there any memory or anything?
You know? Doctor Sophie, who was my psychiatrist, he and I kind of worked together to think about how to message things to her when it all first happened, and I just told her, like, your daddy was sick in the head, you know. And I didn't tell her obviously what happened. And then she was riding in her cars on the way to school after it all happened, and thank goodness, she was behind me because doctor Sophie said to remind her of him, And so I said, oh, do you miss daddy? And she's like in oh, And I said, okay, well some times I miss Daddy and I remember like we went to Hawaii and I was trying to give her some memories memories, yeah, And she was like no in oh, And then a little bit later she goes, Mommy, why would you miss a boy that screamed at you all the.
Time remembers And just for the people that are listening that have been in any part of like an abusive relationship, at what point did and you can tell me you don't want to answer, but like, at what point did you know?
Like this isn't all right?
I knew very early on. And you know, it's a lot. I do a lot of public speaking. I love speaking at universities because I get to talk to freshman about relationship inequality, red flags, all that kind of stuff, date rape, things like that. Because I saw it from the very beginning. I ran past all the red flags.
Do you think it was because like I was talking to my family O night and I was just talking to him, my dad. Actually, I was like, you know, the one thing I've always craved in my life is the ability to have unconditional love. And I just don't know that I've ever one hundred per se percent felt it like I always felt like there was condition it was conditional.
Yeah, And do.
You think is there a part of you that thinks that I can change this person or is it what I'm just asking, like, how how does somebody avoid it when they're getting.
To that place? Absolutely well. I grew up without a father, and I tried to put boys in my life my whole life, to try to give me validation. And I had low self esteem, and so I would take like any port in a storm, just anyone that would give me attention, because that's really what I needed. And instead of like working through it, that's how I put a band aid on all of that. And so with with him, like he would do things and then he would have this night and shining armor thing, which is very common in the beginning of relationships with control more like this. So I had a textile company and he was like, you shouldn't work like I want to take care of you. So then the financial control, you know, So I shut my company down, and then you should have a baby, you should be a mom. So now I've got that with them, you know, And it's little by little. You know, somebody doesn't ask you on a date and punch you in the face. It's a slow burn, so you know it. God, Yeah, So you know, I mean I watched some episodes that I was pretty taken aback with some of the things that you were dealing with, and it was reminding me and giving me chills in my life. Okay, I'm sorry.
It got physical too.
No, but watching it, I know the verbal abuses.
I was going to ask you because just recently, I don't know if it suppressed memories or what. I will walk through my house and I will go leave me the fuck alone, Leave me the fuck alone. In my head, I'll say that, and I'm like, why am I saying that? Why am I saying that? Is that like suppressed memories of what I went through when you know, when I was being told what to do and how to do it and what to say and all the things, And it's just so bizarre to me, Like I'm like, why do you see a therapist? One of these things keep popping in my head.
That scene with you trying on dresses to go to the party when everything is either too short, too long, too backless, to this color that color.
Well, I was judged for everything I did know.
I was reliving that exact moment with you because you cannot make it abus or happy.
No, well, Shannon, you I was just saying I was looking at Shannon's face. I said, as I'm sitting here having this conversation, the fact that there's four of us here, and all four of us, in one way or another, have had some form of this happening. Imagine how many women out there feel like they're alone?
Yeah, and I had Yeah, which they both.

Wait, No, it is because you just you feel like you're just a piece of piece of shit. You just like you can't do anything right.
Yeah, but do you feel like that has carried on after you have been divorced and you have dated, in the relationships you've been in, have you carried that with you?

I won't tolerate it, And how do I just got to a point, and I did go to therapy for a long time, but I'm not how to tolerate that. I deal with that, you know, I don't know, and it scares me. And I think all the time that they're gonna at some point now I'm gonna get tarry. At some point they're gonna come to me and say, why didn't you protect us, Why did you stay for so long? Why did you put us in front of.
All this chaos?

Because I was it for the kids? Yeah, I thought that I'm keeping my family together. And I would say, Shannon, you've got a pretty nice life. You don't really get along with him. Put a smile on your face and be grateful. Yeah, that's what I would say to myself.

But I do want to ask another relationship question, because Okay, so you you met your husband prior to being on it, like you were after Beverly Hills, but before being on OC how do you guys know when you're meeting somebody if they are good guys or they're opportunists and they want.
To Oh, that's a good question.
I never thought it would be with another man my entire life, especially because as my life was unraveling, there were so many secrets that I didn't know about, and I felt like a deer in the headlights. I thought, I'm going to drive my Mercedes down the street and the side panels are going to fall off, And really I've been drawing a Kia the whole time. Not there's anything wrong with the keya. I'm just saying there were so many lies like piling up on top of his death, and so I was like I'm done. I'm never gonna be able to meet anyone because my whole life is out there. But John and I had known each other before, and he was he was he helped me with my he was your lawyer, yeah, And so he helped me for two years, and we hated each other because every time he called me it was bad news, you know, like another wheel fallen off the bus. So it was two years of us just being friends. But he was the only person I could trust.
And do you still feel the same.
I mean, obviously like highs and lows of every marriage, but like, what would you say the best thing about him is for you?
When he asked me to marry him, I said, I will marry you, but you cannot change me because I changed everything about myself and my first marriage and I will not change. So you have to love me exactly the way I am. And I'm a Gemini, so a to me.

And I was like that with Eddie as well, because Simon has so much control of everything I said and did and war and where I went, where I couldn't go, and where I could go. That with Eddie.
