Episode 7: Emily Mannix



Emily Mannix is a kid from country Victoria who loves her family and having a laugh as much as she loves sport. She was initially taken by individual sports like cross-country, swimming and surf lifesaving, but it was netball and being part of a team that stole her heart from age six. As a Melbourne Vixen and Australian Diamonds player, she has experienced winning championships at the highest levels, to being dropped from the national team, and everything in between. Through it all Emily has discovered her inner strength, developed resilience and learned to speak up in the face of challenges. As a senior player, she loves nothing more than helping to support and grow her younger teammates and is finding a new voice off the court as a co-host on the BackStoppers Podcast presented by Deakin University.

You may be aware of his illustrious career in music and entertainment spanning four decades.

Although he may be the iconic frontman who is instantly recognisable and bears the most criticism, he does not consider himself the leader, but a member who knows his place in the group.

But behind that on stage persona is a highly introspective, curious and intelligent individual, who champions the power of noticing, which is reflected in his music and art.

Through fiction books, putting pen to paper, and noticing the small things, Tim has found survival and the sparks of creativity which have kept him creating for a lifetime.

A difficult childhood does not need to define your future or your pathway. After struggling to find solid ground at times throughout her childhood, Sandra Heriot has learnt the importance of nurturing young people and leading with love.

The psychologist, adventurer and ultramarathon runner leaves her footprint on every path she has walked, and saying yes to opportunities that have fallen her way, has led her to walking (or running) many different paths.

A strong-values leader who leads with kindness, she believes a rising tide lifts all boats and is now driven by her own experience to bring healing and empowerment to others.

There are no shortcuts to growth, and we must do hard things, but we can also lend a hand to those around us during the difficult periods in their life.

“You are a conversation away from changing your life.” More than philosophy, but a core purpose in Damon Klotz’s teaching and life.

The former Work Culture Evangelist at Culture Amp decided to not small and take the leap by sitting front row during the technology boom in Silicon Valley.

Klotz has spent his career at the intersection of people and technology, and preaches that true culture is not defined by mission statement, but by the behaviours we witness accept, and promote.

Whether we hold a leadership title or not, for most of us, all that is required is the courage to engage in conversation.
