Described as "soul punk" on the band's Youtube channel, the band told KROQ the inspiration behind the song was that Billie Joe wanted to sound like Prince.

Cal reflects on the unlikely, almost mystical origins of the track—written quickly, instinctively, and recorded on an early 8-track recorder in Kirribilli in 1982.

In a remarkable full-circle moment, Cal shares that he is now house-sitting in the very same Sydney location where the demo was first recorded, looking out at the same block of flats that inspired a song which would go on to define a generation.
