Australian music history comes full circle in this special episode as Mark "Cal" Callaghan from GANGgajang joins Triple M's Dangerous Dave and Gleeso to celebrate Sounds Of Then (This Is Australia) being crowned Number 1 in Triple M’s Most Played Countdown. More than four decades after its release, Sounds Of Then has once again captured the hearts of Australians, proving its enduring legacy as one of the most iconic songs in Australian music. Cal reflects on the unlikely, almost mystical origins of the track—written quickly, instinctively, and recorded on an early 8-track recorder in Kirribilli in 1982. In a remarkable full-circle moment, Cal shares that he is now house-sitting in the very same Sydney location where the demo was first recorded, looking out at the same block of flats that inspired a song which would go on to define a generation.

Rock royalty took over Sydney! In this episode of Triple M Gig Reviews, Row recaps an electrifying night at ICC Sydney Theatre as ZZ Top brought their Texas blues swagger Down Under on May 13, 2025. With George Thorogood & The Destroyers in tow as the perfect warm-up act, the night was a masterclass in grit, groove, and guitar. From Thorogood’s rowdy renditions of Who Do You Love and Bad to the Bone, to Billy Gibbons and Elwood Francis lighting up the stage with Got Me Under Pressure, Gimme All Your Lovin’, and Sharp Dressed Man, it was wall-to-wall classics. Elwood Francis stepped up to honour Dusty Hill’s legacy on bass with serious style and serious beard, while John Douglas filled in on drums for Frank Beard with rock-solid precision. INXS legends Jon Farriss and Kirk Pengilly join Gleeso on Triple M Nights to celebrate 40 years of Listen Like Thieves, the album that catapulted the Aussie rock icons to global stardom. First released in 1985, Listen Like Thieves marked the beginning of INXS’ game-changing collaboration with producer Chris Thomas — the man determined to bottle the band’s raw, live energy in a studio setting. “He was fascinated by how powerful we were live, and how we hadn’t captured that yet on record,” explains Kirk Pengilly. The result was a sonic turning point that redefined their sound and laid the groundwork for their future success with albums like Kick and X. Jon and Kirk also reflect on the 40th anniversary reissue, which has been meticulously remixed by Giles Martin — son of legendary Beatles producer George Martin — bringing new depth and clarity to the classic album. In a poignant moment, the boys open up about revisiting rare tapes and old recordings of their late bandmate Michael Hutchence, sharing the emotion and nostalgia of hearing his iconic voice again.
