Last week, the left made it clear. They’ve become actively hostile to free speech rights.
Independent liberal journalists Matt Taibbi and Mike Shellenberger testified to the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government about the government’s censorship efforts revealed in the Twitter files.
Rather than being appalled that government would try to silence Americans, Democrats on the committee doubled down. Ranking member Stacey Plaskett accused the pair of being “so-called journalists” who constitute “a direct threat to people who oppose them.” Sylvia Garcia pressed Taibbi to reveal his sources.
Taibbi, an award-winning former Rolling Stone reporter, described as “digital McCarthyism” the censorship efforts hitting internet platforms from every corner of government. In response, he was smeared as a nutty conspiracy theorist.
Clearly, for the left, freedom of speech is no longer a hallowed part of our national heritage. It’s just an impediment to enforcing a government-approved narrative. Shameful.
