Each and every day that the government shutdown continues, the more it will become clear to the American people that it is indeed a Schumer shutdown.
That’s the harsh reality for Democrats—everybody knows it.
They know that Schumer is afraid of AOC—afraid of the hard-left Democrats she leads—and afraid of a primary challenge in 2028 that he knows he’s likely to lose.
And Schumer is afraid of life after Congress. He’s 74 now, has been in Congress for 50 years. He’ll be 78 when he runs again. He can’t imagine life after being in Congress.
Democrats have gone full “Thelma and Louise” over the shutdown cliff because they don’t listen to anyone except themselves.
And it’s going to be a hard landing. The sooner the Democrats pull the parachute, the better it will be for them. But there’s lag time in polling. It could be a while—indeed a very long while—as the GOP has absolutely no reason to move an inch. None. And they won’t.
Schumer ought to end the shutdown now.
