The testimony was alarming—for Meta’s reputation, but more importantly, for America. Last week, a whistleblower (who once served as Facebook’s Director of Global Public Policy) testified before Congress. She said that Meta, which used to be Facebook, had worked with the Chinese Communist Party to develop censorship tools and offer access to information on Americans.

According to the whistleblower, Meta also created and tested a custom censorship system for China when the company was trying to break into the Chinese market. It even allegedly promoted services to help that country “increase global influence and promote the China dream.”

Expect Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, to be called before Congress— as he should. If the whistleblower’s claims are true, he has a lot to answer for.
