Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential field marks the end of an era.
Biden was the last nexus to the Democrats’ New Deal/working class days. Democrats are now officially the party of technocratic elites and hard-left radicals, ruled by a big money oligarchy with priorities and obsessions far distant from those of everyday Americans.
Kamala Harris is a fitting mascot for the post-Biden Democrats. She comes from San Francisco and has never won a non-Californian’s vote. She can’t credibly pursue Joe Biden’s lunch bucket strategy of competing in Rust Belt states like Michigan and Wisconsin.
Harris is likely to pursue a southern strategy focused on North Carolina and Georgia. She may well look carefully at moderate governors like Roy Cooper of North Carolina or Andy Beshear of Kentucky when choosing a running mate.
One thing is certain: it’s not your parents’ Democratic Party.
