Carol Platt Liebau: Good Riddance to Mahmoud Khalil

The American left has embraced the cause of 26-year-old Mahmoud Khalil, the legal permanent resident who led the pro-Hamas activism at Columbia University.

The left seems shocked that the Trump administration would want Khalil deported. But it’s only common sense. Khalil is an outspoken Hamas sympathizer. And Hamas is a terrorist group.

Any permanent resident can be deported if the State Department has grounds to believe his presence or activity has serious adverse foreign policy consequences. A Hamas sympathizer who incites wild protests on an American campus most certainly fits the bill.

The American left continues to decry the supposed abridgement of Khalil’s First Amendment rights. Five years after their enthusiastic support for censoring fellow Americans who questioned the official covid narrative, their tender concern for a terrorist sympathizer’s speech rights defies belief.

Good riddance to Mahmoud Khalil.
