Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency – or DOGE – have found truly scandalous examples of wasteful government spending. At the US Agency for International Development alone, we’ve funded everything from tourism in Egypt to sex changes in Guatemala.

The Treasury Department handles millions of preapproved payments every month — automatically. Without an audit, no one knows whether any of these payments are mistakes. The Department of Defense already can’t pass an audit. 

Strangely, Democrats seem angrier about an audit than about the potential waste of your money. These are the people who voted to hire 87 thousand more IRS agents to scrutinize your 600 dollar Venmo payment. They’re incensed that the government who collects your tax dollars should have to account for them — and spend them wisely.

That’s the attitude that got us into this mess in the first place. Change is long overdue.
