A recent article in DC-insider magazine Washingtonian reported that food workers were organizing protests to target members of the new Trump administration.
The piece recalled the “resistance” hijinks in DC dining rooms when Trump was last president. Cabinet members and Trump-friendly senators were occasionally driven from restaurants by hostile crowds. Trump’s press secretary was denied service by a restaurant owner. Members of Congress like Maxine Waters told supporters to harass Trump officials.
But now, something’s different. The Washingtonian piece featured quotes from a restaurant worker reserving the option to refuse service to the Trump administration. This time, the restaurant’s owner not only fired her, but characterized her remarks as “inappropriate, hostile, intolerant and unacceptable.”
This marks a welcome return to normalcy in American culture. Every healthy society needs politics-free zones in its common life.
It’s about time.
