Albert Mohler: A Welcome Shift of Direction

We saw big news last week coming out of Meta—the parent company of Facebook. CEO Mark Zuckerberg released a video stating they’re going to make a very major change in terms of the company’s policies—and will no longer cooperate with outside agencies in so-called fact checking.

Zuckerberg said:  “So we’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies, and restoring free expression on our platforms.”

He went on to say they would now allow its users to add content or debunk claims in notes that appear next to specific posts—processes pioneered by Elon Musk on his platform, X. They’ll also lift restrictions on hot-button topics like immigration and gender identity.

The problem with the entire “fact checking” system is that when you have an elite privileging one argument over other arguments, you have to define what is a fact. And behind that kind of definition is ideology.

It was a remarkable speech—and a welcome shift of direction.
