In politics, there are earthquakes and then there are earthquakes. What took place last week in New York City is a very big earthquake. The Democrats are now nominating Zohran Mamdani, a man identified with Democratic Socialism, a Muslim, born in Uganda, now to be the Democratic Party’s nominee to be mayor of the nation’s largest city.
The biggest issue here is Democratic Socialism. New York politics is always interesting. It’s often unpredictable. It certainly was last week. New York Politics sometimes serves as a bellwether for politics, but not so much in the national sense, but National Democrats are paying big attention to this story.
But it may well be that the Democratic Party is now under such radical control from the far left that winning national elections is actually no longer its primary consideration.
There are many who are asking the question, “Where in the world is the Democratic Party going to go?” If this primary election in New York is any indication, let’s just say, it is going to be interesting.
