In this message, Pastor Holmes tackles a common spiritual struggle: relying on self-effort instead of yielding to the Holy Spirit. While we often strive to achieve obedience through sheer willpower, human effort alone inevitably leads to defeat. True transformation happens when we surrender control, recognizing that we have been bought with a price and indwelt by the Spirit. Tune in as we explore how moving from self-directed striving to Spirit-led illumination allows God to order our steps, direct our path, and live His Word out through us.

Key Takeaways

Illumination vs. Revelation

God has given us the completed canon of Scripture. Rather than seeking new revelation, believers need spiritual illumination—a correct, Holy Spirit-given understanding of God’s Word.

The Pitfall of Self-Effort

Attempting to produce righteousness or walk in "lockstep" using raw willpower eventually leads to failure. True spiritual success comes not from trying to achieve obedience, but from yielding to the Spirit's power.

Bought with a Price

Believers no longer belong to themselves; they were purchased through Christ's sacrifice. Because God owns us, He holds the right to direct and control every area of our lives through the Holy Spirit.

Scripture as a Guide, Spirit as the Power

God’s Word illuminates where we have withheld control, while the Holy Spirit provides the actual power needed to walk in alignment with God’s will without deviation.

The Cycle of Grace and Restoration

Human flesh is prone to mistakes, but when believers acknowledge their faults ("fess up"), God demonstrates His mercy by forgiving and placing them back on the right path.
