Hour 2 (10.20) Los Angeles ranks 168th of 182 cities in WalletHub’s new safest-cities list. Plus, Cole’s French Dip is coming back, Porto’s heads to Ontario, and Donnie Wahlberg’s jet skids off a Vegas runway.

7:05 LeBron James opens his record 24th season in a 76ers jersey, and Philly beats the champion Knicks 106-100 at Madison Square Garden on ring night. Porto’s Bakery announces its first Inland Empire location, near Ontario’s airport, but the opening isn’t expected until 2028. And Cole’s French Dip, the downtown LA landmark dating back to 1908, is set to reopen under new owners with a new menu. The Bukowski restroom plaque stays.

7:20 Donnie Wahlberg was on a private jet that aborted takeoff at Harry Reid International Airport, skidded off the runway and hit a fence. “The airplane did take some lumps — but we did not,” he says, crediting the pilots. Newport Beach declares a local emergency ahead of the Oct. 26–28 king tides, with the Balboa Peninsula and harbor islands most at risk.

7:35 The first real storm of the season rolls in Wednesday into Thursday, with showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Plus, the Mega Doppler 7000 started life as the Mega Doppler 2000. And crews are back on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, making permanent repairs from July’s 110-year-old water main break.

7:50 WalletHub’s 2026 ranking puts Los Angeles 168th of 182 cities for safety. Juneau, Alaska is No. 1, and Irvine is Southern California’s safest city at No. 28.
