Hour 1 (10.20) A $3,300 DWP bill for two months, and now Mayor Bass says pay what you can. Plus a pulmonologist on how Jalen Hurts’ calf clot reached his lungs, and who should skip this fall’s COVID shot.

6:05 Dr. Ray Casciari is a pulmonologist with St. Joseph Hospital in Orange and Interim Vice President of Medical Affairs at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia. He explains which age groups he says should skip this fall’s COVID vaccine. Then: the Eagles put Jalen Hurts on injured reserve with a blood clot in his calf that reports say moved to his lungs. Dr. Casciari explains how a leg clot becomes a pulmonary embolism and why it has Hurts out indefinitely.

6:20 Pope Leo XIV is back at the Vatican after surgery at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital to remove a localized lung cancer from his right lung. Dr. Casciari explains what that surgery and recovery involve. Also, Selena Gomez says vaping nicotine changed her voice for good, and she’s telling fans it isn’t worth it.

6:35 Dennis Zine, former LAPD officer, former L.A. City Councilmember and board member of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, joins Michael Stafford of the San Fernando Valley United Chamber of Commerce.

6:50 Mayor Karen Bass tells LADWP customers hit with huge bills after the summer heat to pay what they can for now. She has also asked the DWP board to halt water and power shutoffs through the end of 2026. Some customers say their two-month bills hit $2,700 to $3,300.
