Another water main has burst, this time in the heart of Hollywood, while the giant one in West Hollywood is finally being plugged up so the Sunset Strip can reopen. Is this heatwave making LA’s 100-year-old pipes explode? We also get the latest from downtown on day 4 of the D4vd murder hearing in the killing of teenage Celeste Rivas. KFI reporter John Fink calls in live from San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Johnny Depp showed up in character to promote his film Ebenezer and Fink bumped into another John — Cena. Andy plays some of President Trump’s remarks from tonight’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, then rolls into the TalkBacks as listeners are clearly already in full Friday-night mode. Andy admits he’s more of a drinker than a toker.

It’s so hot in the Valley it felt like a Midwest summer day. In Santa Monica, the longtime Montessori School is closing after decades to make way for Alpha School, an AI-powered campus that replaces human teachers with artificial intelligence.  

 

KTLA photojournalist Meredith Gunning, a true East Coaster, joins Andy on the phone and reveals she ripped her shirt like a pro wrestler when she heard LeBron is heading to the 76ers. Crozier, a 38-year KFI veteran, looks back on working the air during the 1992 LA Riots.  

And in a free-speech controversy, a hot mic caught Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty and Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes privately discussing whether they can permanently ban disruptive speakers from public meetings.

Andy is still impressed by how good Waymo’s self-driving cars really are — the first time he rode one in San Francisco, the vehicle pulled over and a remote voice came through the speakers because a passenger wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. It leaves us wondering if Waymos also use remote drivers the way some driverless fleets in Las Vegas do. Andy rants about AI’s effect on the brain: Google now pushes Gemini answers to the top of every search with zero context, and the real robot apocalypse isn’t Terminator-style robots — it’s us lazily handing over our autonomy. The flood of AI-generated slop online is only getting worse.  

 

Then it’s time for Andy’s favorite game, Solo to Solo (DJ Greasefire style), where he plays the isolated guitar solo from a classic track and listeners call in to guess the song and artist. First up is a retired pilot calling from LAX who still drives for Uber and admits to drinking on the job — maybe we should set him up with that earlier caller who doesn’t drink, claims she’s not boring, and has a cracking body.
