Birth Order Personality Traits, Tested

View descriptionShare

Hour 3 (8.20) The crew runs birth order against their own personalities; Bellio stops the show over a pair of shoes, and Tim admits what he pulled at the Getty on a date. It starts with the theory that where you land in the family — oldest, middle, baby, only — stamps you for life, and the crew testing it on themselves one by one. Then everything grinds to a halt because Bellio's shoes are too cute to let pass without comment. Tim takes it from there with the story of a trip to the Getty with a girlfriend and the move he decided to make while he was up there. And the hour closes on retro television; the shows the crew grew up in front of, which turns into a roll call of people who got fired in radio and what finally did it.Worth knowing before you do the birth-order bit: the largest study on it, 377,000 high school students, found the differences between firstborns and everyone else are so small they have no practical relevance to people's lives. A separate analysis across British, American and German samples found null effects on personality across the board, with the only exception a slight firstborn edge on intelligence. Doing the bit and then pulling the rug plays better than playing it straight.
