A 27-year-old researcher named Jacob Coxon resigned from Anthropic this week and posted the reason on X, where it's racked up more than 150 million views. His claim: the people building this technology privately believe it could kill us all by the end of the decade, and both Anthropic and OpenAI are "racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives." Then it got stranger — Anthropic's own head of alignment publicly agreed, putting the odds of AI wiping out humanity at greater than 10% in the next decade. 

7:20 — Billion-Dollar Blame Game & Delta's Bad Week 
Lineage Logistics is suing solar operator Altus Power and contractor Pearce Services for more than $1 billion, claiming they sparked the June 17 Boyle Heights warehouse fire that burned for over a week and left the neighborhood with foul air, rodents, and insects for months. The suit alleges roughly 200 faulty electrical connections were known about by May and the contractors re-energized the array anyway. Both companies deny it. Then: two separate Delta flights lost cabin pressure. On Flight 2311 out of LAX, the oxygen masks dropped and the 737 fell 27,000 feet in about ten minutes before diverting to Las Vegas. 

7:35 — Wrong House, Wrong Night 
A man in Hollywood Hills West told police he was robbed and beaten during an overnight home invasion — five suspects, a gun, a stolen safe, and a getaway car. There was just one problem with his story. Police say he doesn't live there and wasn't house-sitting either. Investigators now believe the victim was a squatter, which means somebody picked the wrong house on the wrong night, twice over. It happened a day after a reported hot prowl at Quentin Tarantino's place.

The City Council voted 8-3 to authorize $13.04 million in debt financing for 107 non-patrol LAPD vehicles for the 2028 Games — trucks, vans, mobile substations, hazmat rigs. A separate $30 million request for 300 patrol cars got pushed back for more review. Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez voted no and pointed out the obvious: L.A. was promised a no-cost Olympics, and the vehicle tab alone is headed north of $40 million.
