16 Hours in the Ocean, Found Alive

View descriptionShare

Hour 3 (8.19) A Long Beach man spends the night alone in the ocean and lives, four 40-story towers for seniors are headed for Warner Center, and Tim finds a saved voicemail from his dad. The hour opens on prediction markets and what the Florida upset would have paid out, then Costco and nonprofit insurer SCAN Health Plan partnering on Medicare Advantage products in two states and a Medicare supplement in a third, pending regulatory approval — the retailer's first entry into the Medicare market. Then Tim, scrolling his phone, finds his father's voice still on it. From there: Paul Carbullido Jr., 53, was found 16 hours after he was reported missing — a husband and father of four on a personal watercraft for the first time in his life. He can't swim. Coast Guard crews found him floating nearly three miles south of the Seal Beach Pier around 10:45 a.m., body temperature down to 86 degrees, and he says his life vest is what let him paddle all night. Plus the Viva project headed for Warner Center: four towers, roughly 40 floors, more than 3,000 units of affordable senior housing, part of a much wider redevelopment. Councilmember Bob Blumenfield calls it the future of senior housing — "kind of like Golden Girls on steroids." And the crew closes out on Harry and Meghan, their post-royal business record, and whether the American public has moved on.
