The government has allocated R26 billion to provinces to strengthen the HIV/AIDS programme, focusing on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission and the provision of antiretrovirals. As part of the targeted and responsible savings initiative, provinces will also repurpose some of their funding to meet their obligations towards PEPFAR, following the withdrawal of US funding. Additionally, R21.3 billion has been allocated to the health sector over the medium term to support the compensation and employment of doctors, as well as to cover shortfalls in goods and services expenditure.
