The SACP 5th Special National Congress has gotten underway in Boksburg east of Johannesburg. 
At least 70 delegates including members of the tripartite alliance and invited guests will attend the four-day meeting.  The Communist gathering will assess the implementation of the party's resolution since its 2022 national congress with the view of finalizing its 2026 local government election strategy. INTRO: Oil prices surged by 30-percent on Monday morning over renewed fears of a supply shortage from the Middle East as the US-Israeli war against Iran enters a second week. The price of crude oil elevated to its highest level since Russia's invasion of Iran in 2022.   While the price of brent crude has settled to trading at around 104-dollar-per barrel, oil prices had jumped up to nearly 120-dollars per barrel in early morning trade.  High oil prices are expected to remain elevated amid fears of a prolonged disruptions and blockade at the Strait of Hormuz, a shipping route for 20% of global oil supply.

Carrim attributed this strategy to fellow North West businessman, Brown Mogotsi. However, transactions before the probe, show that a third of the R1.5 million Matlala first paid to Carrim, went to Morgan Maumela - raising eyebrows at the commission.
