INTRO:
Eskom will implement an average electricity tariff hike of eight-point-seven-six-percent for the 2026/27 financial year following approval by the National Energy Regulator (NERSA). The adjustment will take effect from the 1st of next month for customers who purchase electricity directly from Eskom. The increase in tariffs are expected to place additional pressure on households and businesses, who are already struggling with the rising cost of living.

INTRO: With over 90 percent of the country's trade volume moving by sea, President Cyril Ramaphosa says the current conflict in the Middle East could have positive implications for  South African ports and their strategic value.  This came out during three day National Transport Conference held in Midrand north of Johannesburg. Over 700 delegates were part of this conference. Currently the US-Israel war against Iran has affected the global oil supply with Pretoria not being spared. Analysts expect a jump in fuel prices next month on the back of much higher oil prices.

INTRO: ANC Secretary General -- Fikile Mbalula -- says Johannesburg Mayor, Dada Morero, is going nowhere. This follows weekend reports that the party's Johannesburg regional structure has decided to remove Morero as mayor. Last year, Morero lost in the regional conference to Loyiso Masuku, who has since been appointed as deputy mayor. Speaking to the media in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Mbalula said the ANC Johannesburg Regional Executive Committee has no powers to remove mayor.

FOCUS: Vhembe District Municipality has launched the debt rehabilitation programme to strengthen revenue collection

INTRO: The Vhembe District Municipality says from the 1st of April residents should take part of the  municipal's revenue collection strategy called "Debt Rehabilitation Programme. The programme is aimed at improving financial sustainability while supporting consumers to settle outstanding municipal accounts. The municipality says for a service like water provision comes at a cost therefore residents who receive water full time must pay for the services.
