Flood relief and rebuilding the infrastructure were the highlights of the Limpopo 2026/27 budget. Nine billion rand has been allocated for infrastructure development in Limpopo for the 2026/27 financial. Finance MEC Kgabo Mahoai says they will ensure that infrastructure damaged in the floods at the beginning of the year is repaired. Mahoai was tabling the 2026/2027 budget in Lebowakgomo today. The overall budget now sits at over 95 billion rand. The 2026/2027 provincial budget has been adjusted from last year's 88-billion rand.For the coming financial year until March next year, provincial departments will utilize a combined amount of just above 95 billion rand. Out of the 95-billion, nine billion rand has been allocated for infrastructure development. The Education department has received the highest share of the budget followed by the Health department, both allocated more than a billion rand. Opposition political parties have cautioned the provincial treasury against mismanaging funds and grants earmarked for flood relief.EFF leader Lawrence Mapoullo and DA's Jacques Smalle are calling for more accountability on the utilization of the budget. Meanwhile, the provincial economy still faces negative growth prospects in the short term.The province still struggles to create jobs for a significant part of the youth population, despite a drop in the official unemployment rate to just above 28 percent.
