INTRO: The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has welcomed the High Court in Johannesburg's dismissal of North West businessman, Suliman Carrim's bid to not testify before the commission. Carrim will now have to appear before the commission tomorrow, after the High Court Judge Denise Fisher struck the matter off the roll with costs. Carrim turned to the courts on Tuesday to apply for an urgent interdict to block the commission from issuing a subpoena to compel him to appear before it. Carrim is accused of having dealings with alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.

INTRO: The South African Social Security Agency, says it is well on its way to achieving its target of reviewing 420-thousand grant beneficiaries for the current financial year. The agency was briefing the media in Parliament on social grants reviews, aimed at determining the eligibility of targeted beneficiaries whether they still qualify to receive social grants. SASSA says hundreds of thousand of beneficiaries have been notified to approach the agency and review their social grant status. The Agency says through this process about 70-thousand were suspended due to failure to conduct reviews. It says it is working with credit bureaus, SARS, NSFAS and other entities to identify beneficiaries with potential alternative sources of income.
