The South African Council of Churches has called on everyone in the country to unite and push back against racism, inequality and crime particularly against women and children. This came out during a National Day of Prayer held at Grace Bible church in Soweto. Representatives of various church denominations, civil and political formations including government ministers have graced the occassion. INTRO:These were the scenes that played out on Wednesday as armed soldiers of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) moved through homes in Westbury, west of Johannesburg.The members were embarking on a in a large-scale raid.  Outside, residents gathered as the soldiers moved from door-to-door. While some residents welcomed the deployment, there were those who were frustrated. He claimed his house has been targeted by authorities who constantly raid it.

The Department of Education in George in the Western Cape has suspended a teacher for allegedly humiliating a child on social media. The teacher has been suspended pending an investigation into alleged discrimination against the learner. The allegation follows the circulation of a video taken by the teacher during hashtag PieDay at the school. It shows learners in class having a pie and a juice, with one learner - who allegedly did not have money to pay for the pie - sitting with his face covered in his hand.
