The Federation of Unions of South Africa, FEDUSA, has declared its full solidarity with COSATU and public sector unions protesting against steep contribution increases imposed by the Government Employees Medical Scheme(GEMS). FEDUSA says public servants have faced medical aid hikes of over 23 percent in recent years, squeezing workers already under financial strain. The federation has demanded urgent feedback from GEMS within seven days, warning that further action will follow if concerns are ignored. FEDUSA says public servants are united in defending their dignity and their right to affordable healthcare.
