INTRO: Bus drivers represented by the South African Transport Allied Workers Union have threatened to go strike after wage negotiations with the employer reached a deadlock. SATAWU is demanding a 6,5-percent wage increased from the 1st of April this year, and 7,5-percent in the second year. The union says the employer has not revised its offer following the declaration of a dispute last month. The employer has tabled a 3,25-percent wage offer for the current year, and 3,5-percent in the second year, a move the union has described as an insult to drivers who are already underpaid.

The committee is investigating allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system. Mkhwanazi made the allegations in a media briefing in Durban in July last year. The committee has resolved to call him back to respond to questions on matters that have arisen during its hearings.
