The South African Reserve Bank's (SARB) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at seven percent. This means the prime lending rate will remain at 10-point-five percent. The rate announcement comes a day after Stats SA data showed the annual headline consumer price inflation (CPI) accelerated faster than expected to five-percent year on year in June, up from four-point-five-percent in May. Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago made the announcement yesterday. Governor Kganyago says the decision follows an incredibly uncertain economic environment and the committee was split, with four members voting to hold and two favoring a 25-basis point. This follows a meeting between taxi associations SANTACO, NTA and Gauteng Roads and Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela in Pretoria. Gauteng taxi operators have withdrawn threats to embark on a province-wide strike. This follows a meeting between taxi associations SANTACO, NTA and Gauteng Roads and Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela in Pretoria yesterday. The meeting came after concerns were raised by the taxi industry that their working relationship with the MEC had broken down.  Following the meeting between the two taxi associations and MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, the MEC reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment to working with the taxi industry. Previously, taxi operators alleged that the MEC was bypassing provincial and regional leadership structures by engaging directly with individual operators when issuing licences. SANTACO, says the two sides have identified their challenges and will work towards resolving them and the National Taxi Alliance, NTA, has welcomed the meeting and says it will work towards resolving the outstanding issues.For more on this story with an update on the meeting, we are now joined by Mr Theo Malele from the National Taxi Alliance..........

The Western Cape High court will deliver its judgment today on Friday (24/07/2026) - regarding President Cyril Ramaphosa's urgent bid to halt Parliament's Impeachment Committee. The President wants the committee to pause for at least three months, in anticipation of his application to review the Section 89 Independent Panel report, which found that he had a case to answer regarding the theft on his Phala Phala farm. The matter was heard over two days by a full bench of the Western Cape division, last week. The committee has been diligently continuing with its work, having met to iron out its terms of reference and names for a possible evidence leader this week. Committee chairperson, Makashule Gana, has consistently said the committee will crack on, until a court rules otherwise. An the committee has a meeting scheduled for next week. If the ruling is in favour of the President, this may be put on ice of at least three months. For more legal speculative views on this story, we are now joined by legal expert Mr. Mosses Zitha.......
