FOCUS: The Presenter interviews Elias Bila, about FEDUSA's reaction & views on the MPC's decision to keep the repo rate unchanged at seven percent.........
INTRO:
The South African Reserve Bank's (SARB) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at seven percent. This means the prime lending rate will remain at 10-point-five percent. The rate announcement comes a day after Stats SA data showed the annual headline consumer price inflation (CPI) accelerated faster than expected to five-percent year on year in June, up from four-point-five-percent in May. Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago made the announcement yesterday. Governor Kganyago says the decision follows an incredibly uncertain economic environment and the committee was split, with four members voting to hold and two favoring a 25-basis point. For more on this story with the reaction and views from Federation Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA), we are now joined by one of the unions' executive committee members, Mr. Elias Bila............
