The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) is calling on road freight and logistics companies to stop employing undocumented foreign nationals as truck drivers. SATAWU says it's unacceptable that employers overlook qualified unemployed local truck drivers, in favour of foreign nationals in an attempt to cut costs. SATAWU general secretary, Jack Mazibuko says greater collaboration among unions, the labour department, home affairs, and the police are necessary to fight against the employment of undocumented foreigners.  INTRO:  National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, has stuck to the testimony he gave to Parliament's Ad Hoc committee in October last year. The committee is looking into matters of national security. He repeated that he was not consulted when a decision was made to disband the Political Killings Task Team, that he had a meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa to discuss his concerns regarding this disbandment and that he had not known alleged criminal kingpin, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala. The committee is in the process of finalising its report, that must be handed in at the end of this month. Zalene Merrington compiled and Mixo Mashimbye reports...

INTRO:
Eskom will implement an average electricity tariff hike of eight-point-seven-six-percent for the 2026/27 financial year following approval by the National Energy Regulator (NERSA). The adjustment will take effect from the 1st of next month for customers who purchase electricity directly from Eskom. The increase in tariffs are expected to place additional pressure on households and businesses, who are already struggling with the rising cost of living.

INTRO: The Independent Policing Union (IPUSA) has called for the implementation of exit vetting. This follows the arrest of a former Special Task Force member, Matipandile Sotheni for the murder of former EMPD officer and whistleblower Marius van der Merwe, also known as Witness D. Van der Merwe was killed outside his home in December last year, after testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. Police believe Sotheni was hired to kill van der Merwe, raising concerns about task force members being recruited by organised crime syndicates.
