According to the DA - its a 25 year celebration of servant leadership and being a party for everyone. They say they are a party that looks well after tax payer's money, as confirmed by the Auditor's Report year after year. A role they hope to continue with while growing the party. The birthday party comes as the expected joslling for the leadership position start to come into focus. Steenhuisen took over when party support was at 16 percent. It has now grown to about 22 percent, and according to Steenhuisen he would like to continue. Against the backdrop of a community ravaged with socio economic struggles and social ills including gun violence, gangs and drugs Steenhuisen sang praises of his party and it's achievements. But he says they are doing somehting about it. The one year being part of the GNU government has had its ups and downs, Steenhuisen says But it is well on track and he called for peace in the Middle East. Steenhuisen
was speaking on the sidelines of the party's 25th birthday party in Hanover Park (on the Cape Flats). The low key birthday event was held at a City run old age home facility - where a cake was cut and blankets handed out to the elderly.
