The N1 road between Modimolle and Mookgophong in Limpopo has been reopened following a fatal crash involving three vehicles today.  Five people were killed in the crash.  Two other people were critically injured and were taken to FH Odendaal Hospital in Mokopane.  The driver of the vehicle suspected of causing the accident has been arrested.  Limpopo Department of Transport is urging motorists to adhere road rules as the province experiences high traffic volumes during Easter holidays. The National Taxi Association (NTA) has urged operators to consider fare increases of three to six-rand for local trips and ten to 30-rand for long-distance travel. This follows steep fuel price hikes. The Mineral Resources and Energy Department has announced that petrol prices have increased by three-rand per litre, while the price of both grades of diesel has increased by between seven-rand-37-cents and seven-rand-51-cents per litre. The Electoral Commission says over 100-thousand prospective candidates are expected to contest approximately nine-thousand-600 council seats in the local government elections. The commission's CEO Sy Mamabolo says that the number of candidates for the elections which are expected to take place this year has increased from that of 2021.
