Commenting on New Zealand First's "Kiwi Kids Grant" policy - which would pay parents $15,000 per child for their first three children if born or raised here - Brendan Malone highlighted similar overseas incentives that have failed to return birth rates to a level of population replacement.  He suggests that deeper cultural and economic factors need to be addressed, rather than cash incentives alone.




The LifeNet speaker also warned against a welfare state mentality for individual family decisions, saying children are gifts of human hope, not "economic units".
