Last Friday, The UN General Assembly passed the “Correct the Map” resolution.

This resolution called to replace the commonly used Mercator projection map with one called the Equal Earth map that depicts the size of nations more accurately.

While any 2D depiction of a 3D globe will require visual distortions, critics argue the traditional map exaggerates Western nations and shrinks Africa, Latin America and southeast Asia in the process.
