The Victorian Government has given final approval for a 219-turbine windfarm for development at Warracknabeal  Energy Park, making it the largest proposed windfarm in the Southern Hemisphere. The plan will now move to the federal government for formal assessment ..  

The proposed large-scale project is anticipated to power 1.2 million homes and generate economic opportunity for the town. 

Dr Ben Ewald General Practitioner, Conjoint Senior Lecturer at University if Newcastle and representative of Doctors for the Environment says the approval of Warracknabeal Energy Park is a positive step for Australia in its goal to curb carbon emissions, as it will open the opportunity to close down more coal power plants.
