The United Nations is searching for its next Secretary General as Portugal’s Antonio Guterres steps down in December. 

Amidst the ongoing candidate process, there is a crisis of trust towards the current international system as well as the United Nations as an organisation. 

The UN reports many nations are now disregarding transnational laws and withdrawing from international treaties as geopolitical conflicts continue in parts of the world.
