Global heating is set to overshoot 1.5C, according to a new United Nations Environment Programme report .
Exceeding the limit pledged in the Paris Agreement is now “unavoidable”, with modelling under the most optimistic scenario placing the expected peak temperature rise at 1.8C.
This comes as the world suffers through record breaking heatwaves, and increased climate-induced disasters.
However, authors of the report said the temperature could be returned to 1.5C by accelerating greenhouse gas emission cuts alongside removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
