Labor and the coalition voted last week to block the landmark Red Lines package from a parliamentary or Senate inquiry, leaving a wide cohort concerned about lack of deeper analysis.  

The Redlines Package legislation was introduced into Federal Parliament days earlier by a crossbench-independents coalition. 

The bills would increase oversight and prohibit defence exports, technology or services where they could risk Australia’s international human rights obligations, or if there is a risk of genocide, war crimes, or crimes against humanity.  

The package remains supported by a broad coalition of civil society, faith, and legal advocacy organisations campaigning for support ahead of next month's sitting.  

The Australia Palestine Advocacy Network supports the bill, and its Political Engagement and Campaigns Lead Maria Poulos says it's critical these laws become universal and not specifically targeted.
