Kumanjayi Little Baby review urges major reform of child protection system

A system-wide child protection reset is needed in the Northern Territory. That's among forty-five recommendations handed down by an independent review commissioned following the death of Kumanjayi Little Baby near Alice Springs in April.

The Finocchiaro government has committed to accepting all of the recommendations. The review found Child Protection received sixteen notifications with a pattern of violence about Kumanjayi Little Baby, but no domestic violence orders were sought to protect her.

Rob McPhee is the Northern Territory representative of SNAICC, the national voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. He's told NIRS News' Mark Hides he's pleased the CLP government has finally acknowledged the system's failures.
