University students from across Australia are getting the chance to take their marine science studies out to sea as part of a unique CSIRO training program.

The annual CAPSTAN program gives students hands-on experience aboard the research vessel Investigator, Australia’s dedicated ocean research vessel, as they learn about marine science and take part in real research.

Curtin University marine science student Te Huika Mason was one of the students who recently travelled from Perth to Hobart, gaining practical experience and an insight into life on a research vessel.
