Australia and Japan have struck a major 10-year defence agreement, allowing Japan’s defence force to test hypersonic, long-range missiles on Australian soil, including the Woomera Prohibited Area in remote SA.

While the pack has been termed as a ‘ground-breaking milestone,' a Traditional Owner says the deal sparks renewed concerns around access and care for Country and cultural heritage sites...  

It follows a four-year inquiry by Australian National Contact Point (AusNCP) finding an international weapons manufacturer was directly linked to an adverse human rights impact after Traditional Owners Andrew and Robert Starkey discovered an unexploded missile left on an Indigenous heritage site in Woomera.
