Advocates fear NT public housing reforms disproportionately impact First Nations communities

New rules for public housing in the Northern Territory introduced this week mean tenants can be evicted for a major single antisocial behaviour breach.
.
Indigenous and legal advocates say these will disproportionately impact First Nations people and increase homelessness.

Under the rules, public housing tenants will receive a strike for antisocial behaviour. Three strikes from antisocial behaviours such as excessive noise from a television or using foul language will lead to eviction. However a significant breach, like threatening someone or damaging property, will be counted as three strikes and result in eviction.

The NT government says it's responding to concerns from neighbours of public housing tenants.
