Yet, social capital seems to be in decline, political divisions run deep, communities are crumbling, and the country appears to be more narcissistic and fragmented than ever before. Robert Putnam, the Malkin Research Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University and author of Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community, and Shaylyn Romney Garrett, writer and founding contributor to Weave: The Social Fabric Project are co-authors of The Upswing: How America Came Together a Century Ago and How We Can Do It Again.
