Gangsterism continues to claim young lives in South Africa. In the Western Cape alone, around 30 people were killed over the weekend, while several young men were shot dead in Westbury, Johannesburg, amid ongoing gang violence. But why has gangsterism become so entrenched in some communities? And how do we change the mindset among young boys who may see gang life as a source of money, power, respect or status?
