Uganda Bans Handshakes As Ebola Response Measures Tighten
The Ministry of Health has announced a temporary ban on handshakes and other forms of physical greeting following the confirmation of two Ebola cases from the Democratic Republic of the Congo that crossed into Uganda.
According to Permanent Secretary Diana Atwine, the measure is intended to reduce physical contact and curb further transmission of the highly infectious virus.
2. South Sudan – Juba
South Sudan launched a national air management system built by China, hailing the inauguration of the facility as a step towards full control of its skies.
The war-ravaged East African country previously relied on a 2016 agreement with neighbouring Sudan to control its airspace. South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011.
The Togolese government has removed visa requirements for citizens of all African countries.
It will now allow holders of valid African passports to enter the country without a visa for stays of up to 30 days -- the latest attempt by African countries to ease movement across the continent.
The country's Minister of Security, Calixte Madjoulba, disclosed in a statement this week that the decision is aimed at deepening regional integration and boosting cross-border cooperation on the continent.
