Currently there is an international global struggle to stabilize currencies by moving toward gold backed currency around the world. BRICS continues to move forward with gold-backed "settlement system" and away from the US dollar as the standard for trade, despite threats by President-Elect Trump to levy substantial tariffs against BRICS nations.

This BRICS "settlement system" is not a new international currency according to a Russian representative quoted in a Reuters article posted on yahoo.com -
