Brian From opens the week by calling a perfect Midwest fall day a reminder of the Creator's goodness. He shares how the podcast Ctrl+Z: Rewritten got him thinking about regret and the fresh start we have in Christ. He reads from Russell Moore's Christianity Today column "Yes, Jesus Loves You," which pushes back on the idea that the gospel is a loophole protecting us from a God who wants to condemn us. He also tells the story of a Georgia man arrested for faking a 911 emergency to skip a Red Lobster bill, and works through a Gospel Coalition piece on how much rest is enough. In the second hour, Brian looks at a suspected plague death at a Russian research lab and the allegations against the LifeSurge conference series, which prompted Tim Tebow and other speakers to step back. He reflects on the death of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert as a warning against putting our hope in people. He also covers a study on phantom phone vibrations and David Brooks's Atlantic essay on finding meaning in life's later seasons, then closes with a walk through Psalm 23.

The idea of “the common good” has a rich history within the Christian church. It’s the notion that, as we pursue Jesus in our lives and in the lives of others, we are fulfilling God’s purposes for His creation. This pursuit can be messy. It means rolling up our sleeves and creating space for hard conversations about real issues that impact our lives. Things like parenting, marriage, finances, politics, art, and culture. On The Common Good, Brian From creates space to have these conversations, to sit with the big questions that we all have, to sometimes disagree, but to always look for the chance to create common good, by following after Jesus. Brian welcome listeners to join them in these conversations, to bring their own questions, hopes, and struggles, and to ultimately share in a journey to see God’s design for all of us fulfilled.
