Brian From reflects on the cultural shifts following Tuesday’s election, including a viral video of young women cheering that “abortion is so back” at a Georgia election night party, and West Hollywood allowing multi-partner relationships to register as domestic partners. Rather than despairing, he calls the church to roll up its sleeves, support pregnancy centers, and speak hope through the gospel. He shares Russell Moore’s essay on why he’s still a Christian, and two heartwarming stories: a 97-year-old who passed away at his birthday party after dancing to “Stayin’ Alive,” and a Texas school custodian who wept when her district named a new elementary school after her. Brian celebrates Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell’s encouraging recovery update and his testimony that his faith has never been stronger. In the second hour, he shares a message on finding our identity in Christ rather than our accomplishments, discusses a Gallup poll showing a sharp drop in well-being among adults under 30, and shares a Gospel Coalition piece on why the gospel changes the heart rather than grading our performance. He closes with David Platt’s call to remember and pray for persecuted believers in North Korea.

The idea of “the common good” has a rich history within the Christian church. It’s the notion that, as we pursue Jesus in our lives and in the lives of others, we are fulfilling God’s purposes for His creation. This pursuit can be messy. It means rolling up our sleeves and creating space for hard conversations about real issues that impact our lives. Things like parenting, marriage, finances, politics, art, and culture. On The Common Good, Brian From creates space to have these conversations, to sit with the big questions that we all have, to sometimes disagree, but to always look for the chance to create common good, by following after Jesus. Brian welcome listeners to join them in these conversations, to bring their own questions, hopes, and struggles, and to ultimately share in a journey to see God’s design for all of us fulfilled.
