Brian From talks with author David Housholder about his new devotional, 365 Greek Words Every Christian Should Know. David, who spent seven years as a research assistant to Frederick Danker on the standard New Testament Greek lexicon (BDAG), explains why he wanted to give everyday believers access to the original language. Each daily entry offers a Greek word, an easy pronunciation, a Bible verse, historical background, a devotional, and a prayer, with no experience needed. Using basileia, “kingdom,” as an example, he shows how Greek enriches our understanding of God’s reign breaking into everyday life, not just a place we go after death. David explains the difference between Koine and modern Greek, encourages listeners that this is the “golden age of Bible study” for ordinary people, and describes his “what and so what” approach: understand what the original author meant, then apply it faithfully. He also offers encouragement to Brian’s son, who is taking Greek 101 in college.

The idea of “the common good” has a rich history within the Christian church. It’s the notion that, as we pursue Jesus in our lives and in the lives of others, we are fulfilling God’s purposes for His creation. This pursuit can be messy. It means rolling up our sleeves and creating space for hard conversations about real issues that impact our lives. Things like parenting, marriage, finances, politics, art, and culture. On The Common Good, Brian From creates space to have these conversations, to sit with the big questions that we all have, to sometimes disagree, but to always look for the chance to create common good, by following after Jesus. Brian welcome listeners to join them in these conversations, to bring their own questions, hopes, and struggles, and to ultimately share in a journey to see God’s design for all of us fulfilled.
